HOUSING ACTION ILLINOIS
invites you to their 2005 Convention
LEADERSHIP THROUGH ACTION
Abraham Lincoln Hotel and Conference Center
November 14 and 15
Springfield, IL
Here’s what you can look forward to:
Opening Rally
A lot of great things have happened at Housing Action Illinois over the past
year, from adoption of our new name, to taking Employer Assisted Housing statewide,
to successful passage of the Rental Housing Support Program. At the rally,
we’ll celebrate these and other accomplishments and provide an opportunity
for you to share the good news from your community.
Workshops
We have expanded the number of workshops offered this year to twenty sessions
across five tracks: Homeownership Counseling, Affordable Housing Development
and Management, Being a Housing Leader, Issues for Service Providers, and
Issues for Executive Directors. Workshops are being offered on Monday afternoon
and Tuesday morning, so make sure to plan to stay over on Monday night.
Keynote Speaker
Bill Faith is Executive Director of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing
in Ohio. In 2003, Mr. Faith’s leadership resulted in the success of
a decade long effort to secure a dedicated funding source of $50 million annually
for the Ohio Trust Fund, a trust created to support affordable housing opportunities,
expand housing services, and improve housing conditions. In the aftermath
of the campaign, Affordable Housing Finance magazine profiled Mr. Faith as
a Housing Hero and the Cleveland Plain Dealer named him Ohioan of the Year.
He is board chairman of the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
Plenary
The focus will be on identifying how you can participate in our work during
the next year to increase the supply and availability of affordable housing
across the state. This session is important because we are only as strong
as our members and allies make us.
Awards
Each year Golden Trowel Awards are presented to individuals and community-based
groups that have worked towards achieving housing justice in Illinois in the
areas of community organizing and/or real estate development.
